Under 13 Girls Match Reports

Saturday 20th March 2010 : Ringmer Rovers 1 (1) v (1) 3 Southdown
RR battled hard against this very good side even after going an early goal down. Southdown, the league leaders, piled on the pressure to get a second goal, which led to some great goal line clearances from our defensive team of Kate, Chloe, Becky and Maddie. The action was all in the RR own penalty area and it was credit to the team and our two goalies (Hattie and Amber) to keep the score to 0-1. Then all of a sudden RR had a break and Evie scored a fabulous solo goal running from half way line and finishing in the top left hand corner right on the whistle of half time.
At 1-1 and with the wind in our favour for the second half the girls starting to believe that they could get a winning result from this very tough fixture. The second half was more a midfield tussle with Erika, Katie, Jasmine and Millie all getting stuck in. Sophie, Ellen and Harriet up front tried to latch on any break-aways but the Southdown defence held firm.
Southdown broke the tie with a goal that sneaked into the corner when it seemed that a draw was going to be the result - they made sure of the win with a final goal in the last few minutes of the game. An unlucky result yet again.

Saturday 13th March 2010 : Ringmer Rovers 1 (1) v (2) 2 Jarvis Brook
Captained by Kate - RR were attacking right from the start of the game with Evie controlling matters in the centre of the pitch. Against the run of play JB opened the scoring by a fine individual goal by their No 16 - running through the usually strong RR defence to strike first blood.
JB then took control of the game by scoring soon after with a fabulous free kick that beat the diving Amber. RR were 0-2 down after 15 mins but heads did not drop. In fact, the team were inspired by some midfield runs from Katie, Evie and Erika on the right and the majority of the play was in the JB half.
Just before HT RR got their well-deserved goal with Ellen producing a killer finish; 1-2 at HT.
The second half was all Ringmers and any JB attack was snubbed out by the defensive team of Maddie, Kate, Chloe, Becky and Beth - Maddie had an exceptional game on the right of defence....whilst the others were as reliable as always.
The attacking team of Ellen, Hattie & Sophie went close many many times. The unluckiest moment when Ellen struck the cross bar to be then scrambled off the line followed by a fine shot from Katie that was then saved well by JB goalkeeper. It was thrilling stuff.
Jasmine came on in the second half to try and add that deserved equaliser - Erika and Evie were splitting apart their defence with some great runs - but time ran out and RR girls were very very unlucky to not earn at least a point from their efforts.
The game was played in a great spirit and all the players and spectators seemed to really enjoy themselves - and that is what it is all about!

Saturday 6th March 2010 : Ringmer Rovers 0 v 8 Hastings Hawks
The mighty cup run has come to an end with a defeat to the cup holders Hastings Hawks last Saturday. Hastings beat us last year in the Cup Final on their way to a league/cup double and it proved again on Saturday that their long experience together as a team was a big factor.
The girls did not let their heads drop against the best team in the league and all tried their very best. The girls have only been together a little over a year as a team but play with a have great team spirit - having fun is the key... and if the girls can win some games along the way then all the better.
If we had to pick our player of the match then it went to Kate in defence who threw herself at everything and inspired everyone to keep trying until the whistle went for full-time.
