RRJFC Summer Football Festival 2009
Ringmer Rovers JFC hosted their inaugural tournament on the weekend of Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st June at Ringmer Community College and it was heralded a major success. With 258 teams attending from all over Sussex and Kent, a fantastic sanctioned tournament was played on good pitches with official referees in a tremendous spirit with fair play and sportsmanship prevailing.
The tournament was an even greater success than had been planned as initial estimates were for around 80-120 teams to enter but this just kept growing and growing, meaning eventually thirteen pitches were set up for this six-a-side event, which is destined to become part of the Club calender.
The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped with the tournament, in particular all the volunteers who contributed their time, their donations, their help with generating prizes, cooking cakes, collecting items, marking the pitches, putting up goals - the list is endless and exhaustive but you know you who are and the Club are indebted to each and every one of you that made it all possible. The Club would also like to thank all the sponsors and advertisers whose financial input really helped put it all on.
As you can imagine, being our first tournament, many items needed to be purchased for the first time and a special mention to all the suppliers who helped out where possible keeping our costs down and in some instances donating items for nothing. Thank you to all of you.
The weather was kind, without being too hot, and this enabled all teams to play a hard but fair game on good playing surfaces. Some exciting football was played out and with the bonus of an additional point for scoring three goals, it really made for attacking football. There were many high scoring affairs which entertained the large crowds.
Below is a roll of honour and our congratulations go to all the winners and runners up for reaching the final. We hope you will be back in 2010 to defend your trophies. Pictured below are the 2009 winners.
